Previous Event Report
Conference Report of WDD-2016

On April 25-28, 2016, BIT's 7th International Congress of Genetics, with the theme of “New Biotech toward 2025”, was successfully held in Dalian International Conference Center, China. Many keynote speakers and a lot of renowned speakers from many countries attended this conference.
As the keynote speakers, Dr. Arieh Warshel, Distinguished Professor, University of Southern California, USA, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, 2013; Dr. Robert Plumb, Professor, Imperial College London, UK; Dr. Che-Kun James Shen, Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan; Dr. Patrick Liu, Vice President, Teva Pharmaceuticals Ltd., USA; Dr. William R. Strohl, VP & Biologics Fellow, Janssen R & D, Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, Spring House, Pennsylvania, USA gave their wonderful speeches at keynote forum and are warmly received.

There were 7 sessions following the Opening Ceremony covering topics in fields including: Genomic Instability and DNA Repair; Emerging Sequencing Technologies and Molecular Diagnostic Technologies; Nucleic Acid Forum; Evolutionary, Conservative Genomics and Ecogenomics; Gene Detection Forum; Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine; Bioinformatics, Computational and Statistical Genomics; RNAi and MicroRNA, etc.
In addition to the highly specialized branch and forum, exhibitors’ booths at the scene of the conference were also a major highlight of the event. The enterprises provided scientists with advanced instruments, which also have been making great contribution to the scientific research achievements. They work together with the scientists to revealing the secrets of DNA-based research, biomedical studies and human genomics.
Viewing the warmly support and good suggestions from all the participants, we are confident in organizing WDD-2017 which would be better and more successful than WDD-2016.

Scenery of Xi’an

Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi province, and a sub-provincial city in the People's Republic of China. One of the oldest cities in China, with more than 3,100 years of history, the city was known as Chang'an before the Ming Dynasty. Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang. Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of interior China especially for the central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational centre of the central-northwest region, with facilities for research and development, national security and China's space exploration program. It is now one of the most populous built-up areas in inland China with 7,168,005 inhabitants, including urban parts of Xianyang (Weicheng and Qindu districts).

Honorary Chair

Dr. Yuxin Yin,
Dean & Director, Peking University, China

Yuxin Yin
Dr. Yuxin Yin is Dean in School of Basic Medical Sciences, Director in Institute of Systems Biomedicine, Peking University Health Science Center, Peking University, China
Dr. Yin received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 and got postdoctoral training in Princeton University. In 1999, he was appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Columbia University and was promoted to the Associate Professor in 2007. He was recruited as a National One-thousand Talent Plan to the Peking University Health Science Center in 2010. His research field is cancer research with focus on the roles of tumor suppressors p53 and PTEN in cell cycle regulation, apoptosis and genomic stability. He was the first one to find a fundamental role for p53 in maintaining genomic stability (Cell). Also, it is first reported that PTEN plays a fundamental role in the maintenance of chromosome stability (Cell). In Peking University, Dr. Yin has made great progress in studying the PTEN pathway in genome stability and tumor suppression. Recently, his group revealed a novel mechanism of alternative translation of protein and discovered a new member of the PTEN protein family named PTENα (Cell Metabolism). These studies may provide new insights into the mechanism by which PTEN maintains genomic stability and suppresses tumorigenesis.
